Lyophilization — also known as freeze-drying — is a dehydration process that removes water from a frozen peptide under low pressure. The result is a stable, dry powder that preserves molecular integrity during storage and transport and is reconstituted in a sterile solvent before use.
Lyophilized peptides should be stored at 2–8°C, protected from light and humidity. Reconstituted material is typically refrigerated under controlled conditions and used within the stability window described in its protocol documentation.
Reconstitution water is a sterile water solution used in laboratory environments as a diluent for reconstituting lyophilized peptides. It typically contains a small amount of preservative — most commonly 0.9% benzyl alcohol, giving it bacteriostatic properties — to inhibit microbial growth in multi-use protocols.
